
A heartbreaking incident on April 14 has claimed the lives of a 53-year-old woman and a 4-year-old girl in Huntingburg. First responders were called to a residence at 107 N. Geiger Street, where they found Oliva Mora Regalado and Evelynn Lopez unresponsive. Life-saving efforts were attempted on both victims. Evelynn was rushed to Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper, where she was later pronounced dead. Oliva was declared deceased at the scene. Following an investigation, police determined that Oliva suffered a fatal medical emergency due to a preexisting condition. With no other adults present, investigators believe multiple dogs in the home, including six Pitbulls and a Poodle mix, attacked Evelynn. The child died as a result of her injuries. For safety and evidence preservation, all dogs were sedated and euthanized at the scene. The animals were transported to the Southern Indiana Purdue Agriculture Center for further testing. ,Authorities confirmed that no criminal charges will be filed. The investigation was supported by several agencies, including the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, local EMS, the Dubois County Prosecutor and Coroner’s Offices, and a forensic pathologist.
