A new entrepreneurship and leadership program for high school juniors and seniors in Martin County is thriving in its first year. The Martin County CEO program launched in August after raising $70,000 to sustain it for the initial years. Led by business owner Todd Baker, the program introduces 14 students from Loogootee and Shoals High Schools to real-world business experiences. Students visit 60-75 local businesses, participate in work-based projects, and are paired with community mentors to develop leadership skills. Recent projects include a pickleball tournament to raise funds for student-led startups, and a holiday s’mores kit sale in downtown Loogootee. Organizers hope CEO will encourage entrepreneurs and highlight career opportunities within Martin County, ultimately encouraging students to stay and invest in their community.
