The Pike County Community Foundation has been awarded a $5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to support the Buffalo Trace Trail project. The planned 2.5-mile path will connect to Petersburg’s existing 5-mile fitness trail, promoting accessibility and community engagement. The project will also feature public art installations led by Indiana University’s Center for Rural Engagement and address blight removal in the area. Development and construction are expected to be completed within three years.
