This Sunday on Gettin’ In The Know with Greg Bateman, board members of the Martin County Humane Society, shared updates on the shelter’s reopening plans. The shelter, originally opened in 2013, has been temporarily closed since the departure of its former operators. Efforts to reopen have been led by community members and city officials, who organized an initiative to revive the shelter. The shelter aims to reopen after the New Year, offering adoption services for animals, all of which will be vaccinated and spayed or neutered. A part-time position to help manage daily operations will soon be posted, and the organization plans to introduce a foster program to provide temporary homes for animals. Donations can be made via an Amazon wish list linked on the Martin County Humane Society’s Facebook page. For volunteer opportunities, visit the Facebook page or email NCH.four7553@gmail.com.
