Carl Wayne Walton, 94, Loogootee, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Brookside Village, Jasper, IN, surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born in Martin County, July 19, 1930, to William C. and Julia Iona (Strawn) Walton.

On February 18, 1951, he married Hazel B. Frye and they shared forty-one loving years before Hazel’s passing.  They were partners in life, raising their four children and caring for their home and farm.

He was a lifelong farmer, who for many years farmed the family land alongside his brother Oral ‘Sam’ Walton.  He was a steward of the land, whose favorite place was on the farm working his crops and tending his cattle and pigs, and on his four wheeler surveying the land up until the last few weeks of his life.  He often said there was no greater place to spend life and retirement than right where he was, looking at the beautiful Martin County land and hills he called God’s country.

As a steward of the land, he was active in the Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District, and was instrumental in the establishment of West Boggs Lake.  He also served the children and parents of the Loogootee schools by being a bus driver for over 40 years.

Wayne was a lifelong member of the Loogootee Methodist Church and in his younger years was active in leadership positions within his church, including being on the building committee for the fellowship hall addition.

He enjoyed family trips to Colorado, Virginia Beach, and the Smoky Mountains; being out on his four wheeler; eating ice cream; watching the farm, stock and weather reports; and spending time with his large family.  He was a fan of Indiana University basketball and football, and the Colts.

Preceding Wayne in death were his beloved wife, Hazel, his parents, his brother Oral Walton, and sisters Barbara (Walton) Parsons and Mary (Walton) Peek, and his granddaughter Kendyl Kalb.

Surviving Wayne are his children David (Linda) Walton of Princeton, IN, Darrel (Edwina) Walton of Loogootee, IN, Jill Boruff of Bloomington, IN, and Joni (Ron) Warnasch of Frisco, TX; his grandchildren Amber Walton, P.J. (Miranda) Walton, Josh (Kristin) Roach, Erica Walton, Andrea Walton (Ryan Howell), Kaleb Kalb, Trent (Allison) Boruff, Alexis Boruff (Jaylin Burgess), Mark (Emily) Warnasch and Matt (Kacie) Warnasch; his great grandchildren Zach (Ragon) Koenig, Ashden Walton (Gaven Bledsoe), Bryar Walton, Cohen Walton, Jasey Merkley, Shelby Roach, Madison Roach, Jaxon Roach, Carter Burgess, Addison Boruff, Aiden Boruff, Lenix Boruff, Londyn Boruff, Bentley Rayhill, Acelyn Rayhill, Corbyn Rayhill, Kaden Warnasch, Reese Warnasch, Everly Warnasch, Wyatt Warnasch, Blair Warnasch; and great-great grandchildren Orion and Oaklynn Koenig; brothers and sisters-in-law Gerald and Mary Rose Frye, and Herb and Mickie Frye, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
