Voters are showing up in record numbers to cast their ballots in this presidential election. Of course, the presidential race is on top of the ballot, but several other important races will be decided as well. Indiana voters will vote for the U.S. Senator as Republican Jim Banks will face Democrat Valerie McCray and Libertarian Andrew Horning. In the Governor’s Race, we will have a new Head of State as Republican Mike Braun faces Democrat Jennifer McCormick and Libertarian Donald Rainwater. We will also vote for a new person to represent the 8th District in Congress, as Larry Buschon did not seek re-election. Vying for his seat will be Mark Messmer on the GOP ticket, along with Democrat Erik Holt and Libertarian Richard Fizlaff. For State Representative in District 63, incumbent Shane Lindauer faces a challenge from Teresa Kendall on the Democrat ticket. Locally, no county offices are facing opposition in Daviess County, but we do have two school board races. Three people are trying for the two large Washington School Board seats. Kyle Cornelius is seeking re-election. Running for the other seat vacated by Randy Bouchie will be Rob McCormick and Ryan Dashner. In North Daviess, Rob Dove is facing a challenge from Jared Smith. There will also be an exciting race for Martin County Commissioner in Loogootee as Aaron Summers faces Jason McCoy. Early voting continues until Monday at noon. Polls will be open 6 a.m.–6 p.m. on Tuesday. Daviess County Clerk Lauren Milton reminds voters that they will again have special Saturday hours tomorrow for early voting in Daviess County. More locations have been added this weekend to make it easier for voters to take time and cast their ballot.
One additional location has also been added to this list: residents in Montgomery may vote at the Montgomery Ruritan Building. Election Day is Tuesday, and the polls will be open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for your final chance to make sure your voice is heard. Most local races in Knox County were already decided in the May primary. For the first time, no Democratic candidates are on the county’s ballot. Races for Knox County Council At-Large, County Commissioner, Treasurer, and Coroner were uncontested. For County Council at Large, incumbent Dan Reitmeyer will be joined by newcomers Jon Hillenbrand and Kevin Meyer. T.J. Brink will continue as County Commissioner for District 1, while Tim Ellerman II will represent District 2. Cendy Joslin will serve as Knox County Treasurer, and Joe Millspaugh will take on a full term as Coroner. The only remaining Democrat in office is County Surveyor Dick Vermillion. Local Knox County school board seats are also on the ballot. South Knox’s District C sees incumbent Michael Edwards facing John Carnahan while five candidates, including incumbents and new challengers, compete for three at-large seats in Vincennes.
