Washington School Board Recognizes Staff, Approves Personnel Hires, and Plans Project Hearing

The Washington School Board met Thursday evening. The Board recognized nominees for the Staff Member of the Month sponsored by Habig Injury Law. The October nominees are Brooklyn Taylor, assistant manager of food service at Washington High School; Holly Reinking, secretary at Washington Elementary; Barb Riker, Washington Community Schools bus driver; and Suzie Hawthorne, science teacher at WHS.

In personnel matters, the Board approved hiring Tamra Wininger and Ranita Bucher as elementary aides, Gabriela Abaunza Cardozo as an elementary teacher, Cheryl Johnson as a bus attendant, and Beverly Hartz as a substitute for a leave of absence at Veale Elementary. The Board also approved Breah Eskew, Addyson Cummins, and Jorgia Fishel as elementary education apprentices. The board also approved a leave of absence for elementary teacher Rachel Graber. In other personnel business, the Board approved the appointment of several elementary and junior high ECA coaching and volunteer positions.

The Board also approved requests for students to attend a BETA Club Leadership Conference and the DECA Fall Leadership Conference.

In financial business, the board held an additional appropriation hearing. Matters under consideration were an additional appropriation resolution and a final bond resolution.

In other business, the board issued notice of a project hearing and a preliminary determination hearing for immediate needs projects. The hearing is scheduled for November 21.

The Board will conduct a public work session at the Washington Primary building at 6:00 p.m. on November 13. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 21.
