Seventeen-year-old Taylor Ferguson of Odon is making a heartwarming impact with her certified therapy dog, Fetch, at Daviess Community Hospital (DCH). Fetch, a 9-year-old miniature American Shepherd, visits patients across several departments. On her fall break from North Daviess High School, Taylor and Fetch visited oncology patients, as well as those in acute rehab and med-surg units. Fetch, retired from the dog show circuit, became certified through Therapy Dogs International in 2023. Taylor, inspired by a therapy dog presentation in sixth grade, decided to pursue this path to help others. Despite Fetch’s developing arthritis, Taylor continues their rounds by transporting him in a wagon. Taylor’s grandmother, Sharon Mead, an oncology nurse at DCH, expressed pride in her granddaughter’s dedication, noting the joy they bring to patients.
