The Daviess County Council met Wednesday morning, with most of the agenda focused on 2025 budgets. Council President Tom Schaffer said the budget was higher this year, with line items for the Courthouse renovation project accounting for most of the raise. Schaffer said that while the money was appropriated this year, accounting requirements show the expenditure as part of the 2025 general fund budget. The Council also approved 2035 budgets for the Veale and Southeast Daviess Fire Departments, the Odon Winklepleck Library, and the Daviess County Solid Waste District. The Council also voted to keep the county’s mileage reimbursement rate at 43 cents per mile.

In other business, the Council agrees to the Sheriff’s Department request for $6,000 for uniforms, $10,000 for institutional medical needs, and $52,000 for the Security Center. The Council also approved an I-T request for $75,000 to replace outdated computer equipment at the Security Center and $6,200 for transporting voting machines to vote centers for the Fall Election.
