Daviess County has won the prestigious 2024 Local Government Corporation Award from the Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) for its Kendall J. Murphy Memorial Bridge project. The bridge, located on 3rd Street in Montgomery, was identified as a high-priority replacement by multiple bridge inspection firms. Daviess County and the Town of Montgomery worked together to complete the project through an interlocal agreement. The construction involved coordination with Barr-Reeve Jr./Sr. High School, CSX Railroad, local residents, and businesses to minimize disruptions. On October 24, 2023, the bridge was officially named in honor of Kendall J. Murphy, a dedicated Montgomery firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty in 2017. The award was presented on September 25 during the AIC Annual Conference, where county officials across Indiana gathered to recognize local government projects.
