Alta N. Roach

Alta N. Roach, 104, of Washington, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 6:39pm at the Villages at Oak Ridge in Washington.

She was born on August 6, 1920, to the late James E. & Hattie M. (Freeman) Pitcher in Orange County, Indiana.

Alta was a 1939 graduate of French Lick High School. She worked for Armour and later Purdue for over 15 years. On December 22, 1964, she married the love of her life, Archie C. Roach, and he preceded her in death of August 24, 2007.

She was a member of Bethany Chrisitan Church in Washington. Alta greatly enjoyed tending to and gardening her flowers. She also enjoyed sewing, and did a lot of it. She loved her friends and family, and she especially enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. Alta’s love and dedication to her family will be deeply missed.

Alta is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Jack) Kluemper of Washington, Kathy Fitzgerald of Washington; her son, James Smith of Washington; grandchildren, Beth (David) Callaway, Donna Roach, Joy Roach, Joey Roach, Kathy Ann Lopez, David (Molly) Fitzgerald, Adam (Tyra) Kluemper, Nathan (Amy) Kluemper, Jo Ann Pierce, Le Etta Mueller, Charisa Ramsey, and Norris Ramsey; nephew, Jerry Sanders; several great & great-great grandchildren; and two daughters-in-laws, Wilma Smith & Margie Roach.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie; her parents, James and Hattie; her children, Neva Jean Ramsey, Robert Smith, David Roach, and Carlton Roach; her granddaughter, Jamie Smith; one infant brother; and two sisters, Pauline Sanders & Margie Seybold.

Visitation for Alta will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 12:00 – 2:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. Following visitation, a funeral service will begin promptly at 2:00pm. Alta will be laid to rest following the funeral service next to her late husband Archie in the Bethany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made directly to Bethany Christan Church, and donation envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
