United Way of Daviess County has awarded a $16,000 grant to Youth First, Inc. to provide mental health support and substance misuse prevention services for local K-12 students. The grant will enable Youth First’s student assistance services to reach approximately 3,352 students in Daviess County partner schools, including Barr-Reeve, North Daviess, and Washington schools. The need for this support is underscored by the 2024 County Health Rankings, which highlight concerns such as excessive drinking, a drug overdose rate of 34 per 100,000 residents, and a suicide rate of 10 per 100,000 people in Daviess County. Youth First addresses these challenges by placing highly trained mental health professionals in schools at no cost to students or their families.
