Our Community Foundation has awarded its first Teaching Innovator grant to Washington Upper Elementary, granting $250 to support Lisa Emmick’s classroom with a Hummingbird Bit Premium Kit. Emmick has been named a 2024 Foundation Teaching Innovator. The kit contains lights, sensors, and motors to build projects like robots and cars, combining artificial intelligence with microelectronics, robotics, and coding. This kit will help students understand how these technologies work together and the types of careers available to them in the future. The competitive grant program, conducted in May and June, invited Daviess County teachers to apply for funding for projects in the first semester of 2024–25. Funding came from the Jim and L. Jane Norton Endowment, the Ken and Paula Jones Family Endowment, and the Administrative Support Fund.
