Indiana State Police and the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal crash late Monday night near Lamar. The incident occurred around 11:47 p.m. on rural County Road 1200 North, just south of Santa Claus. Preliminary investigations show that Matthew S. Weber, 44, from Santa Claus, was driving a 2023 Ford Bronco eastbound on County Road 1200 North when, for reasons yet unknown, his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree head-on. Weber succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities have notified the families, and an autopsy will be scheduled. At this time, drugs or alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash.
