Two veteran Washington teachers are ending their careers in education at the end of the current school year. At Thursday’s meeting, the Washington School Board accepted the resignation and retirement of Kevin and Brenda Stallman, effective at the end of the school year. In other personnel action, the board approved Will McCormick as a Jr. High PE aide and Rob McCormick as a sub-interim assistant principal at WHS. The Board also approved Meagan Riley as assistant . junior high track coach.
The Board also heard a report from Cody Chapman and Chad Niehaus, who shared information about a new virtual reality software called Transfr being implemented at Washington Junior High. Students are able to use virtual reality to discover a wide array of career possibilities and make informed choices about their future careers using the program. Each simulation offers students a hands-on encounter with an actual task from a prospective career while giving them insights into the skills that will be required to be successful in those jobs. Transfr’s immersive learning experiences help students delve into different career clusters and industries and give them insights into the daily responsibilities within each occupation. Chapman and Niehaus said the Washington Community Schools are dedicated to giving students opportunities to explore future careers and discover their career interests so they can make meaningful choices for their class selection in one of the pathways offered in the WHS College & Career Academy.
In other business, the Board approved requests for the BETA Club to attend the Leadership Summit, and for the FFA to attend the Farm Machinery Show.
