Rita Faye “Johnson” McCormick aged 78, of Bruceville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2024. Born to Dottie “Harrington” Johnson and Alfred Johnson on July 6, 1945, in the same close-knit community she would later enrich with her presence, Rita led a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and a spirited love for crafts and quilting.
With deep love and a caring spirit, she married Emmett Paul McCormick on April 20, 1969, who preceded her in death. Together, they created a legacy through their children, Deborah Hutchinson “Debby” of Middleburg, FL, Stephen “Steve” McCormick (Theresa) of Mt. Washington, KY, and Aaron McCormick (Jennifer), of Maud, Oklahoma. Rita’s memory lives on through her adoring family, including her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, her brothers James Johnson of Bicknell, IN, and Paul Johnson of Arizona. In addition to her husband Emmett, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Eleanor Johnson, her brothers Denver and Roy Johnson, her son-in-law Mark Hutchinson, sister-in law, Patricia Johnson and infant sister Noami Ruth Johnson.
Her working years were spent bringing joy and care to many at the Brown shoe factory, as well as providing baby-sitting and child-care services. Rita was also involved in the First Christian Church in Bruceville, and was also an active participant of the Ladies Quilting Group.
Rita’s hands were rarely still, as her passion for sewing, quilting, and crafting – particularly making noodles – filled her home with warmth and her heart with happiness. Her talents and company were a treasure to her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply.
Visitation will be at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with service immediately following also at the funeral home. Afterwards Rita will be laid to rest in the Bruceville Cemetery. Fredrick and Son-McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel is honored to be entrusted with Rita’s arragments.
