Purdue University President Mung Chiang, alongside senior officials from NSWC Crane, Purdue University, and the Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI), unveiled the Purdue@Crane initiative at a WestGate Academy ceremony on September 5. This initiative signifies a significant and permanent commitment by Purdue to the Westgate Tech Park region. The expansion begins with Purdue establishing offices spanning 3,000 sq. ft. at Westgate, backed by an initial budget of $2 million. This collaboration aims to deliver excellence, particularly in the field of national security research. The Purdue@Crane initiative focuses on secure and reliable microelectronics and will be led by an experienced research director. Collaboration with companies in the WestGate@Crane Technology Park, including NHanced Semiconductors Inc. and Everspin Technologies Inc., is expected. This expansion represents a pivotal moment in the region’s development, with a strong emphasis on semiconductor and microelectronics workforce growth, which is crucial for the nation.
