Jane Prather Niehaus

Jane Prather Niehaus, 94, of Vincennes, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on March 12, 1929, in Vincennes, IN to the late James W. Prather and Lois E. (Robinson) Prather. Jane graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. She continued her education at Stephens College and Indiana University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Jane married the love of her life, James K. Niehaus Sr., on September 6, 1950. She worked as an office manager or Niehaus Electric Services for 30+ years.

Jane was very active and loved being involved with the public. She was a member of many organizations such as the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She also enjoyed serving on many boards and counsels such as Daughters of the American Revolution, Literacy Board for Knox County Public Library, Vincennes Rotary, Generations, Grouseland Foundation and Sacred Heart Parish Board. Jane was a devoted Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. When she wasn’t volunteering, Jane loved spending time with her beloved cats, reading, and playing bridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James K. Niehaus Sr.; brother James W. Prather Jr.

Jane is survived by her children Jim (Adrain) Niehaus Jr. and Julie (Richard White) Niehaus; granddaughter Chelsea Niehaus; great-grandchildren William and Litha Niehaus.

Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Niehaus. Visitation will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, from 10 to service time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A funeral service will take place on September 1, 2023, at 12 with entombment at Memorial Park immediately following.

Memorial donations can be made to Knox County Humane Society or St. Francis Xavier Diocese in Jane’s honor.
