Donald R. Ramsey, 86, died August 12, 2023 at his residence. He was born on April 11, 1937 to Charles L. and Elsie (Chestnut) Ramsey. He married Laura E. Sims on April 16, 1960.
Donald attended Odon High School. He was employed by McCord Corp, U.S. Steel, then had a seventeen-year career with Standard Oil. After retirement, he began his own carpenter business, 5 County Home Repair.
Donald served in the U. S. Army and Army Reserve from 1960-1966.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nora Lowe and Betty Ramsey; brothers, Charles R and Dale Ramsey; also by half siblings, Leo, Ishmael, and Gordon Ramsey, and Lucille Beard and Wanda Grannan.
Survivors include his wife, Laura (Sims) Ramsey; daughters, Maria Ramsey od Washington and Lisa Little (William) of Brazil; four grandchildren, Donald J. Edwards (Harmonie) of Washington, Bailey Short (Mikkel) of Louisville, and Michael and Elias Ramsey; eight great grandchildren, Jaylynn, Jaxson, Lincoln, Scarlett and Bre’dyn Short, Calvin Edwards, Preston White and Benjamin Kellar; and several loving nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at New Veale Creek Cemetery at 2:00 pm immediately following the visitation with Pastor Jeff Jones and William Little officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
