Franklin L. “Frank” Johnson, 83, passed away peacefully at Bridge Pointe Health Campus on Friday, June 9, 2023, surrounded by his family. Frank was born on September 1, 1939, in Vincennes and he is the son of Paul B. and Anna Lee (Reel) Johnson. Frank married B. Joyce Held on May 5, 1963, and she preceded him in death on September 11, 2020.
Frank was a graduate of Purdue University and taught Vocational Agriculture from 1961-1965. He then returned home to work for Standard Oil from 1965-1975. In 1975 Frank started Johnson Oil Company and owned and operated it until 2001. He then owned and operated Johnson’s Stop and Go with his wife Joyce until their retirement in 2004. Frank and Joyce were avid boating enthusiasts and enjoyed many summers boating at Kentucky Lake and later in the Florida Keys. He also enjoyed horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains and training Tennessee walking horses with his wife Joyce. Frank was also a member of the Indiana Presbyterian Church, Elks, Harmony Society and was a member of the Good Samaritan Hospital Board of Governors.
Survivors include his daughter, Tara Sue Knapp and her husband Kevin of Newburgh, IN; son, Trent Franklin Johnson and his wife Roslyn of Vincennes; brother Steve Johnson and his wife Susan of Danville, IN; his grandchildren, Alexis Williams and her husband Shawn, Adam Johnson, Eli Johnson, Megan Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Kris Knapp, Dustin Knapp, Hunter Knapp and nine great grandchildren. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Paul B. and Anna Lee Johnson, his wife B. Joyce Johnson and his son Tim Johnson.
Friends may visit with Frank’s family from 11:00 am until the hour of service time of 2:00 pm on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN 47591. Pastor Andrea Clegg will officiate, and Frank will be laid to rest next to his wife Joyce in Memorial Park Cemetery.
