James Edward Scheid

James Edward Scheid, 80, resident of Washington, IN, and North Fort Myers, FL, passed away in Florida on March 14, 2023, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Henry Scheid and Mary Ellen (Billings) Scheid, and his brother, Forrest Allen. Jim is survived by his wife Pamela Ann Fitzpatrick, whom he married on June 6, 1964. Also surviving are his sons, James Eric (Christy) of Bloomington, IN, Brian Joseph of Washington, and grandsons Zachary James of Houston, TX, Sawyer Teddy of Bloomington, IN, and Banks Joseph of Washington, IN.

He was born on June 12, 1942, in Washington, Indiana. Scheid was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School. In 1964, Jim received a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity. Jim then went on to obtain his Master’s Degree from Purdue University in 1966, and his Associates from Vincennes University in 1986.

Commissioned in 1964, Army Second Lieutenant Scheid served at a Nike Hercules missile site in Holmdel, NJ. He eventually retired as a captain.

In 1969, Scheid returned to Washington and the family farm. Jim was a director of the then Home Building Savings and Loan, and then he served as a counselor for the Samaritan Center. He was a past president of the Washington Rotary Club, and a member of the 1973 committee for the YMCA Aquatic Fund. Jim was a leader in the 4-H program, and was a lifetime member of the Christ United Methodist Church.

A Celebration of Life/Visitation for Jim will be held on April 29, 2023, from 11:00 – 1:00pm at Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. Following the Celebration of Life, Jim will be laid to rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to be made in his name to the Daviess County 4-H Association, or the Daviess County Historical Society.
