The renovation of Business 50 in Washington began in 2018; the second phase, from the west city limits to Southeast Third, was completed in 2020. The renovation from Third Street to State Road 257 will be completed this week. The final phase of the renovation project from State Road 257 to State Street is now underway, and representatives of VS Engineering met with residents and business owners, along with members of the general public, to explain the latest phase. The project not only focuses on rebuilding the roadbed but also on replacing utilities, sewer, and water lines.

Brandon Durchholz of VS Engineering said the plan is to maintain two-way traffic on the road as much as possible during the final phase of the project. Durchholz told the meeting that work will focus on the section of the road from SR 257 to 21st Street from now to August. Work on the section from 21st Street to State Street is planned from August to October. Contractors will attempt to keep access to all businesses and residents open throughout the final phase of the project. Durchholz also said that McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Fast Pace Health Care, and Pizza Hut had access from Grove Street. But there were questions about whether delivery trucks could navigate the sharp turns off Grove Street. Durchholz also said the main entrance to Cherry Tree Plaza would remain open.

While the road will continue to carry traffic, everyone is asked to drive carefully and remember that traffic patterns and lanes are subject to change. Please remember the area is a construction zone and slow down while traveling in the area.
