The National Weather Service has extended flood warnings for several rivers in Indiana, including the East Fork White River at Shoals and Williams, due to ongoing major flooding. Major flooding continues along the White River, particularly downstream from Elliston to Hazleton, and on the East Fork White River below Seymour. The White River crested near Elliston Tuesday evening and is expected to reach Hazleton by Saturday. Flooding in Petersburg and Hazleton is expected to continue through next week. Indianapolis-area river gauges are expected to drop below flood stage this morning, while Spencer is forecast to do so by Friday morning. On the East Fork, the crest reached Rivervale Tuesday evening and is forecast to arrive in Shoals by Thursday. However, Shoals is expected to remain above flood stage until Tuesday, April 15. At Edwardsport, where the flood stage is 15 feet, the river reached 26.6 feet Tuesday evening, nearing the top of levees protecting low-lying areas of Elnora. Evacuations may be necessary in some low-lying communities. Residents are urged to remain alert and follow local emergency updates.
