With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dorothy M. Johnson. Beloved mother, friend, and community member, left us peacefully at the age of 96 on March 31, 2025. Dorothy was born in Ragsdale, IN on March 14, 1929 the daughter of Oda R. and Bertha (Funcannon) Pitcher. She married Louis Johnson on October 25, 1953 and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2010.
A cherished member of the Community Church of Vincennes, Dorothy’s spirit was felt by all who knew her. She and her late husband, Louis, owned and operated the Paradise Roller Rink, a gathering place that brought joy to countless families in the community. Many will remember her warmth and kindness as she created unforgettable memories for generations of skaters.
Dorothy had a zest for life that shone brightly in all her pursuits. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years, a passion that brought her joy and camaraderie. She also enjoyed bingo in her later years, as well as camping trips with her late husband Louis.
Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters, Lois Lanning of Vincennes, Janet Kissel and her husband Sam of Newburgh, IN, Ruth Ellen Johnson of Vincennes; her grandchildren, Brian Lanning and his wife Jessica, Jeff Lanning, Daniel Kissell and his wife Hilary, Brock Johnson and his wife Olivia; her great grandchildren, Caleb Lanning, Avery Lanning, Gavin Lanning, Sutton Kissel and Daisy Johnson. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Oda R. and Bertha Pitcher, eight siblings, her husband Louis Johnson and her great granddaughter, Delilah Johnson.
Friends may visit with Dorothy’s family from 5-8 pm on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN and from 9:00 am until the hour of service time of 10:00 am on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. Pastor Darren Williams will officiate, and Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband Louis in Fairview Cemetery. The Johnson family has requested donations be made in her name in lieu of flowers to On Eden’s Wings.
