Emergency crews responded to a property damage accident early Saturday morning near Newton’s Processing in Montgomery. The incident occurred around 4:38 a.m., when a driver passing the area reported that his vehicle’s rear window was shattered, and he suspected a downed power line had fallen on his car. Authorities later located the driver near an old coal mine between the Montgomery water tower and Highway 231. Fortunately, he was not injured. However, live power lines were found blocking the roadway, delaying the vehicle’s removal. REMC was contacted multiple times, and officials eventually escalated the situation to ensure a response. By 7:55 a.m., crews had disconnected the power lines, allowing emergency personnel to safely remove the vehicle. The gas to nearby grain bins was also shut off as a precaution. County Highway crews brought road closure signs due to the extended cleanup process.
