William A. “Bill” Tolbert

William A. “Bill” Tolbert, 76, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare in Jasper, Indiana, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 28, 1948, in Shoals, Indiana, to Jonnie and Nannie (Jones) Tolbert.

Bill was a United States Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam and earning a Bronze Medal for his efforts. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #9395 in Loogootee, Indiana. He was also a member of the Christian Church in Shoals. Bill married Leah (Thompson) in 1972, and they were married for 52 years.

Bill worked at US GYPSUM for over 40 years until his retirement. He was an avid bowler, playing in many leagues over those years. He also loved to travel.

Bill was known for his clever wit and sense of humor, but also for his love of IU basketball. Depending on the season, he could most often be found watching the Reds, the Pacers, or the Colts. But no team could compare to his beloved Indiana Hoosiers.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Jonnie and Nannie Tolbert, his son, Lonnie “Billy” Tolbert, his siblings, Laura (Vince) Collins, Linda (Joe) Mumma, and Bob (Kathy) Tolbert.

He is survived by his wife, Leah Tolbert, daughter, Jami (Jason) Bozeman, grandchildren, Emma Bozeman, Crystal (Caden) Chandler, Brandon (Paige) Tolbert, sisters, Debbie Hovis, Vicki (Lonnie) Shepard, Margaret Wininger-Williams, and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11:00 A.M at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 9:00 A.M until the time of service at 11:00 A.M with Rev. Matt Sullivan to officiate.
