Our Community Foundation has awarded a $250 Teaching Innovator Grant to Washington Primary Elementary to support the expansion of its Silent Disco program. Teaching Innovator Morgan Dillon and Principal Kristen Murphy accepted the grant, which funds a unique classroom space designed to help students self-regulate their emotions throughout the school day. The Silent Disco area provides tools such as noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, breathing tools, and timers to help students manage stress and emotions proactively. Dillon emphasized that equipping young students with self-regulation strategies early on helps them develop essential coping skills for their educational journey.
