Our Community Foundation has announced another of the second-semester Teaching Innovator Grant recipients. Washington Catholic Elementary received a $250 grant to support Discovery Time.  Washington Catholic Schools Teacher, Lori Flynn, accepted the award and was named a Teaching Innovator.

The Discovery Time project is to bring an innovative, hands-on STEM experience into the kindergarten classroom. This grant will fund the purchase of lab coats, goggles, and science kits to make learning more interactive and allow them to immerse themselves in the role of young scientists. By using real lab attire and equipment students can conduct experiments safely and feel more engaged in the scientific process.

Flynn states that Discovery Time will help students gain a solid foundation in science and technology, sparking curiosity and gaining confidence to tackle future challenges. Her goal is to help instill a love of lifelong learning. The Foundation conducted the competitive grant program during November and December, inviting Daviess County educators to apply for resources for the second semester of 2024-25 projects. The Foundation’s Administrative Fund provided funding.

Our Community Foundation is proud to support innovative teaching methods in all our area schools. And says they appreciate the generosity of donors in making this grant possible.
