Steven M. Chestnut, a cherished son, loyal friend, and respected member of the community, passed away on January 21, 2025, in Bloomington, IN. Born in Washington, IN on April 30, 1958, Steven’s kindness and hearty laughter filled the lives of those around him for 66 years.

Steven’s early life in Martinsville shaped a man of integrity and responsibility. A Martinsville High School graduate, he went on to serve in the Air National Guard, dedicating himself to the service of his country. Following his military service, Steven had a fulfilling career with the Indiana State Government Center in Indianapolis, where his friendly nature made him a beloved colleague.

Steven’s love for his family was evident to all. He is survived by his adopted daughter Kathy Baker and her children, Preston, RaeAnn, and Bryce, niece Jennifer Chestnut and family, stepmother Wilma Chestnut, aunt Laura Ramsey, cousin Tim Ramsey and family, and his best friend Josh Jett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald L. Chestnut, and Nora G. Lowe, his brother Donald Eugene Chestnut, and his uncle Donald R. Ramsey.

Passionate about Westerns, Steven found joy in nature and was happiest tending to his fruit trees. He held the role of Post commander at the American Legion of Elnora, exemplifying leadership and community service. His dedication to faith and fellowship was reflected in his membership at Shiloh Church of God of Odon, IN, and his involvement with the Masonic Lodge.

Steven will be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor, and his friendly demeanor. Those who knew him were touched by his warmth and kindness, and his memory will continue to inspire acts of kindness within the community. Steven M. Chestnut’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering friendship.

Per his request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to defray funeral expenses.
