Margaret Ellen (Jones) Colbert

Margaret Ellen (Jones) Colbert, 90, passed away at her Washington residence on January 26, 2025. She was born in Washington, July 8, 1934, the daughter of Orville and Panzie Irene (Holtzclaw) Jones. On July 23, 1955, she married Harold Charles Colbert. They made their life together until his passing on July 11, 2005.

Margaret was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School. She was a loan officer for many years at the State Bank of Washington. A devoted racing fan, Margaret enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Indianapolis 500. She was a volunteer with the Daviess Community Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Eastern Star for over fifty years. She attended the Christ United Methodist Church.

Those who now cherish Margaret’s memory include her daughters: Diana Snyder of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; Tracy (Gary) Baxter of Montgomery; and Gloria Voyles of Lexington, Kentucky. Margaret was blessed with seven grandchildren: Vincent (Gabrielle) Steele, Elizabeth (Philip) King, Victoria Steele, Sean (Frankie) Baxter, Matthew (Rachel) Mattingly, Tyler (Ransome) Baxter, Hayley (Trent) Romans; and eleven great-grandchildren: Vinny Steele, Izzy Steele, Luke Ward, Hunter Baxter, Kora Baxter, Timothy Baxter, Kenna Baxter, Abigail Romans, Lincoln Romans, Gavin Mattingly, and Owen Mattingly. Additionally, Margaret leaves a sister, Patricia (Bob) Lewis of Louisville, Kentucky; aunts, Deanna Powers and Marilyn Hurt, several nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Asil May.

During her lifetime, Margaret mourned the loss of her parents, Orville and Panzie Jones; her husband, Harold Charles Colbert; and two sisters, Meribeth Jones and Carol Jean Ellis.

Memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s name to the Helping Hearts Hospice, 1314 East Walnut Street, PO Box 760, Washington, Indiana 47501.

Visitation for Margaret Colbert will be 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana. Please note: the Daviess Community Hospital Auxiliary will present their memorial honors at 10:00 am.

Funeral services for Margaret Colbert will immediately follow the visitation on February 1, 2025, and begin at 1:00 pm, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Pastor Tom Watson will officiate. Burial will be in the New Veale Creek Cemetery.
