The Indiana Department of Transportation’s Southwest District is gearing up for winter weather expected to arrive today. The National Weather Service forecasts 2-4 inches of snowfall across much of the region, with precipitation beginning this morning and lasting into the evening. INDOT crews will fully mobilize over 150 trucks to treat state highways, interstates, and U.S. routes. Pre-treatment activities are underway, and crews will work throughout the storm and into the cleanup phase. Completing a full snow route typically takes two to three hours. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must travel should slow down, increase following distances, and prepare for delays. Motorists are encouraged to carry a winter car kit with essentials like water, snacks, blankets, and a flashlight in case of emergencies.
