Sandra Kay (Ficklin) York

Sandra Kay (Ficklin) York, 78, was called to her heavenly home during the evening hours of December 21, 2024. She was born in Washington on February 6, 1946, the daughter of Floyd Jackson and Mary Louise (Wallace) Ficklin. On November 29, 1964, she married Richard A. “Dick” York, and he survives.

Sandra was a 1964 graduate of Washington High School. She went on to be a paraprofessional in the Special Education Department of the Washington Community Schools, assigned to the Lena Dunn Elementary School.

Sandra was known to have a generous spirit. She freely gave of her time for volunteering, and was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed music, playing the piano and reading. She was a member of the Homemakers Club and the Mount Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Those who now cherish Sandra’s memory include her husband, Richard “Dick” York; and daughter, Rhonda Kay York, both of Washington. Sandra leaves a sister, Karen (Gary) Barnard and a brother, Dale (Pam) Ficklin, all of Washington.

During her lifetime, Sandra mourned the loss of her parents, Floyd and Mary Louise Ficklin.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Burial will be scheduled at a later date.
