The Lions Baseball and Softball organization has embarked on a fundraising campaign to modernize their facilities located near the high school. Board members say the initiative aims to make the complex more accessible and attractive for players and visiting teams. The project was born out of necessity following field relocations in 2022, which left certain upgrades incomplete. The organization launched a crowdfunding campaign through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s “Creating Places” program. If the group raises $50,000 by January 31, the state will match it with an additional $50,000. So far, they’ve made significant progress, already surpassing the $20,000 mark within 20 days of the campaign. Funds will primarily support paving sidewalks and installing new asphalt to improve accessibility for spectators. The campaign also envisions infield renovations and adding lighting to expand play hours. The School Board credits local businesses, community members, and past residents for their overwhelming support. Donations can be made through the organization’s Lions Baseball and Softball Facebook page or mailed to their PO Box. With over 300 boys and girls participating annually, the project seeks to enhance not only the player experience but also the community’s appeal as a tournament destination, benefiting local businesses and families.
