Shirley A. Chestnut, 91, of Elnora Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 4th at The Legends in Washington surrounded by her family and wonderful caregivers. She was born on December 13,1932 to Hayden and Grace Caress. She married Dwight “Bud” Chestnut on Sept 21, 1951. They were married for over 50 years and enjoyed sharing their time together with family and friends. Bud preceded her in death.
Shirley was a loving mom, mother in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother. She touched many lives with her love and laughter. We were all blessed to have known her and will miss her greatly. Her love of our Lord was a special quality that she shared with all of us.
Shirley worked out of her home as a beautician for many years. We are sure many of the world’s problems were solved by noon by her clients and friends! She was a member of the Elnora Christian Church and a 50-year member of Eastern Star. Shirley loved gardening, doing crafts with Bud, and cheering on her sons at their many sporting events.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Mike (Janet) Chestnut of Washington and Dave (Lisa) Chestnut of Petersburg. Also survived by her grandchildren; Bethany (Ryan) Kay, Taylore (Joey) Fitzsimmons, Robbie (Brandi) Chestnut, Clint (Carley) Chestnut, Kyle (Lyndsey) May, Kaycie (Tyler) Hoffman, and Kory May. Great grandchildren; Bailey, Camden, and Mara Kay; Simon and Frankie Fitzsimmons; Hayden, Braylynn, Callen, and Griffen Chestnut; Millie and Plamer Chestnut; and Josie and Norah Hoffman.
Visitation will be on Monday December 9th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home in Washington. Funeral Services will start at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetary in Elnora Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Legends Village in Washington Indiana. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is privileged and honored to be entrusted with the care of Shirley and her family.
