A tragic crash Tuesday morning at the intersection of Highway 50 and State Road 550 left one person dead and another seriously injured. Tammy Payton of Terre Haute attempted to cross Highway 50 from State Road 550 when her vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Jessica Small, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. Payton was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, Troy Gulley, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital and later airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Small sustained minor injuries and was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital. Authorities continue to investigate the incident that shut down US 50 for around 90 minutes.
