Farm owners across Indiana will see significant property tax hikes next spring, as the Agricultural Base Rate, set at the state level, rises from $1,900 to $2,280 per acre for the 2024 tax year, according to Daviess County Assessor Crystal Ostby. Ostby explained that the rate increase is outside the local assessor’s control and is calculated by the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF) using a six-year rolling average based on farm income data and other factors. With tax payments due November 12, Ostby hopes to raise awareness among local farmers to prevent potential “sticker shock” on their 2025 tax bills.
