Daniel Flaherty, accused of murdering his estranged wife Kayla Flaherty, won’t appear in court again until January 2025. Flaherty was charged on October 4, just one day after reporting Kayla missing. She had filed for divorce in September. Flaherty initially claimed his wife was headed to her mother’s home in Vincennes but never arrived. Investigators found no evidence of her travel, and she missed work at Good Samaritan Hospital. According to court documents, Flaherty later admitted to striking Kayla with a hammer, placing her body in their vehicle, and setting the vehicle on fire after driving it into the Wabash River. Her body was discovered in Knox County on the night of October 4. At an October 7 hearing, a request for a public defender was denied, and Flaherty was ordered to be held without bond. He will next appear in court on January 15, 2025, for a status hearing.
