Washington and Vincennes Police each issued statements Friday after they were made aware of a screenshot of a list of schools that includes local school districts that is circulating across social media. It is unclear what this list is, although some are concerned that it is threatening in nature.
The Washington Police Department has investigated and identified that this list is not new. It has been screenshotted and recirculated on social media for quite some time. It is not clear if this refers to Washington, Indiana, as there are many Washington high schools across the country. Police do not feel that this list poses a credible threat; however, they take the safety of our students seriously. To help ensure safety in our schools, they are asking for parents to talk to their children about the importance of social media responsibility and accountability. Please monitor your child’s social media and discuss the dangers and potential consequences of posting and spreading serious statements, such as threatening gun violence, in our schools.
