Daryl Schmitt Wins Caucus Election to Succeed Senator Mark Messmer in District 48

The Dubois County Republican Party has announced that Daryl Schmitt earned a caucus election victory to fill the District 48 State Senate seat of Senator Mark Messmer. Schmitt, a current Dubois County Councilman, won on the second round of balloting last night at Jasper High School, defeating Amy Kippenbrock, Richard Moss, and Todd Smith. The caucus was conducted by the Indiana Republican Party in compliance with state law and in accordance with adopted caucus rules of procedure. On Tuesday, Senator Messmer resigned his state seat, which extends through 2026, in order to focus his attention as the Republican nominee for the 8th District Congressional seat.
