The Indiana Department of Natural Resources and Dubois County law enforcement are investigating the drowning of Edgar Osbaldo Garcia Herrera, a 19-year-old from Evansville, at Patoka Lake. On Sunday at 1:43 p.m., officers were dispatched to the lake after reports of a person going underwater and not resurfacing. IDNR divers recovered Herrera’s body at approximately 4:31 p.m. Herrera appeared to have been swimming without a life jacket, and the turbulent water might have contributed to the incident. The investigation into Herrera’s death is ongoing. The Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, Jasper Memorial EMS, and Dubois County Sheriff’s Department are assisting with the investigation.
