A Vincennes man is in jail in Sullivan County after and incident last Friday. Police say that 34 year old Carl James Porter of Vincennes was stopped, and asleep, in the passing lane on US 41 near the State Road 48 intersection in Shelburn. Police say that while talking with Porter, they noticed criminal indicators and Porter admitted there were narcotics in the vehicle. When Police told Porter they were going to search his car, he took off and led Police reportedly hitting speeds in excess of 100 mph during the chase. The chase ended in Merom. After searching the vehicle, Officers say the found 466 grams of meth, 29 grams of cocaine and 34 grams of pot that Porter threw out of his window. Porter was charging with: Dealing methamphetamine, Dealing cocaine, Resisting law enforcement, Battery against a public safety official engaged in official duty, Criminal recklessness, Dealing Marijuana, Reckless driving, and Possession of marijuana.
