Marilyn Borders, 88, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, February 24th, 2024 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Our mother, Marilyn Borders, was born at home on February 12, 1936. She was the daughter of Carl and Lois Lee. She spent her childhood and teen years in Bedford. She attended Vincennes University and received a degree in Elementary Education. She married Dean Borders from Loogootee in 1956 and moved to Louisiana to finish his term in the Army. Dean and Marilyn had two daughters, Sherre and Alisha, bringing them great joy. In the mid 1970’s the Border’s moved back to Loogootee. Marilyn was involved in the Martin County Business and Professional Woman’s Club, organized the Loogootee Strawberry Festival and the Martin County 4-H Fair Queen contests. She also was a distribution agent for the Washington Times Herald. Marilyn opened The Little Closet, a children’s store.
Mother was a member of the Washington Church of Christ, where she taught many children’s and women’s bible classes and enjoyed singing at church. She worked for INDOT in accounting for several years. Later, she worked for Action Realty in Bedford as a secretary. Gardening flowers was a passion. Her thumb was very green, and the proof was evident in her yard.
Ballgames and school activities were often attended to cheer on her grandchildren. TV time was watching college sports and politics. Quiet time was digging into the scriptures. Marilyn spread kindness and laughter to all around.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Borders; parents, Carl and Lois Lee; brother, Edwin Lee.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Sherre (Van) Baker of Bedford and Alisha Chermak of Michigan; grandchildren, Aaron (Tina) Jones, Alexis (Kevin) Hall, Brady Jones and fiancée, Becca Schoenung, Mitchell Chermak, Nathan (Maitlyn) Baker and Todd (Blair) Baker; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Fielding (Jeannie) Lee.
