Knox County’s Indiana Conservation Officer Shane Cooper has been named the 2023 District 7 Officer of the Year. Cooper, a native of Knox County, has served as a conservation officer since 2013 after completing his studies at Vincennes University and the University of Southern Indiana. District 7 comprises Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Martin, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick counties. Cooper’s district award qualifies him for the prestigious Pitzer Award, given to the state’s top conservation officer, named after Conservation Officer James D. Pitzer, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in 1961.
