Janet Sue Stafford of Wheatland, IN passed away on December 4, 2023. Born in Vincennes, IN on July 7, 1938, to Carl and Henrietta (Byrd) Sandefer, Janet’s life was characterized by her unwavering devotion to her family, her steadfast faith, and her entrepreneurial spirit. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose captivating spirit and zest for life will remain in the hearts of those she loved.
Janet married the love of her life, Allen R. Stafford, on June 2, 1957, and they built a beautiful life together. Janet’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to own and operate her own restaurant, Janet’s Place, which served as a gathering spot for many in the community. A woman of many interests, Janet spent her leisure time delving into a good book, solving puzzles, playing cards, singing in her local church choir, and indulging in her love for Bingo. She also dedicated her time to the Bethlehem General Baptist Church where she was a member and served as a Sunday School Secretary.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Allen R. Stafford, and their children: Carla (Pete) White, Kathy (Sam) Preusz, Kristy (Fred) Taccolini, Randy (Janice) Stafford, Mike (Kristin) Stafford. She also leaves behind her sister, Shirley Purcell, her brother, Joe Sandefer and her cherished grandchildren: Abby White Boyd, Dusty and Rusty Preusz, Jessica Preusz Johnson, Stefanie Taccolini Langer, Anthonie Taccolini, Courtnie Taccolini, Danielle Stafford Carter, Randy Stafford, Austin Stafford, Mason Stafford and several nieces and nephews. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Henrietta Sandefer, and her brother, Jim Sandefer.
As we remember and celebrate Janet’s life, we invite all who knew her to share their memories and photos on her memorial page. It is in these memories and shared stories that Janet’s spirit continues to live on, reminding us of her grace, kindness, and unwavering love. Let us honor Janet’s life by remembering all the joy and love she brought into ours. A private family service will be held Friday morning and Janet will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.
