CenterPoint Energy’s Indiana Electric business has submitted a petition to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, seeking a base rate increase—the first since 2009. The proposed $118.8 million increase aims to cover costs related to projects completed over the past 14 years, including infrastructure upgrades, technology investments, and the shift to renewable energy sources. The phased approach, if approved, would see residential customers facing an estimated $10.07 increase in late 2024, an additional $5.85 in early 2025, and a final increase of $12.46 in 2026. The total monthly bill, post-implementation, is anticipated to reach approximately $200 for an average residential consumption of 799 kilowatt-hours.
