Donald “Don” W. Berry, 91 years old, passed away on October 22nd, 2023. He was born to Walter and Agnes (Williams) Berry on March 20, 1932, in Harrison Township.
Don graduated from Monroe City High School in 1950 and married Winifred Wilson on June 29, 1952. He served two years in the Army during the Korean War and attended veterans agriculture classes after his service. His life passions were faith, family, farming, and basketball. He was a member of the Monroe City First Church of God where he served in various areas as elder, trustee, Sunday School superintendent, teacher, and Kid’s Hope mentor. He served on the Knox County Sheriff Merit Board, Knox County Fair Board for nine years of which four were president, Farmers Home Insurance Board, Hope Hill Camp Board and was a member of the South Knox Kiwanis Service Club. Don was a member of the 1949 Wabash Valley and Sectional Championship teams and held the free throw percentage record. He shared his love of basketball as a 6th grade South Knox basketball coach for many years. He also was a substitute school bus driver. After farming for over forty years, Don retired in 1997 at the age of 65.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Agnes Williams Berry, two brothers Merlin and Jack Berry, three sisters Carmen Harrell, Gloria Cleveland and Cleo Loveless. He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Winifred Wilson Berry, two daughters, Krista Meyer and her husband Steven of Indianapolis, Kimberly Lane and her husband Ethan of Greensboro, NC, four grandchildren: Cal (Abbie) Meyer of Littleton, CO, Kelsey (T.C.) Knipp of Carmel, IN, Mallory Lane of Birmingham, AL, Sydney (Jonathan) Helton of Birmingham, AL, great grandchildren Selah and Judah Meyer of Littleton, CO, and sister Dixie Nelson, sister-in-law Sue Berry and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday, October 28th from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Monroe City First Church of God with the funeral to follow at noon. The burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Monroe City First Church of God (4930 S.
