Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Marengo

A recent incident involving an officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Indiana State Police. On August 29th, authorities from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and English Police Department arrived at a Marengo residence to enforce an emergency detention order for Bernie Breeding, 49, of Marengo. As officers entered the residence, Breeding brandished a firearm, prompting an officer to discharge his weapon, resulting in Breeding being struck. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Breeding’s injuries were fatal. The investigation is ongoing, and upon its completion, the case will be submitted to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for evaluation. Family members of the deceased have been informed.
