The cleanup process is in full swing across Dubois County following the early morning tornado that hit on Monday. While the National Weather Service continues their assessment of the destruction, they have confirmed that the event was indeed a tornado. Preliminary estimates categorize it as an EF1 tornado with winds of around 97 mph and a path width spanning 150 yards. The tornado’s path left a trail of damage along SR 56 in Kellerville and Haysville. Over 2,000 households initially experienced power outages. The Dubois County Emergency Management Agency has released guidelines for debris removal. At Haysville Park South Field and the intersection of 960 E and State Highway 56, residents can dispose of natural wood debris, construction materials, and metal fragments. Additionally, construction debris dumpsters will be placed at the Dubois County Drop Site on 5080 N State Road 545. Tammy Humbert, the agency’s director, announced that these sites will operate from 7 am to 7 pm starting Wednesday and will remain open until Wednesday, August 16th. Humbert requested that wood debris within county right-of-ways be positioned next to the roadway for collection. If possible, cutting the debris into smaller 8-foot sections would be greatly appreciated. For inquiries regarding the debris cleanup process, contact Humbert at tjhumbert@duboiscountyin.org.
