The Washington School Board accepted resignations from junior high teachers Christie Miller and Andre Knepp, elementary teachers Kaitlin Dant and Amy Hixson, and instructional assistant Stacey Johnston. The Board also approved a leave of absence for Madison Wagler from August 3 to October 23. The Board then approved hiring NJROTC instructor Thomas Sparks, HS radio/TV instructor Nathan Springfield, kindergarten DLI teacher Alejandra Davila, elementary teacher Riker Mehringer, and RTZ math and literacy coach Emily Davis. The Board also approved the list of athletic ECA appointments.
In other business, the Board approved a student transfer policy, a final state-required COVID-19 school plan, and the appointment of Mary Sacarillo to the Washington Carnegie Library Board. The Board also approved an addendum to Sodexo’s maintenance contract. Several Board members expressed a great deal of dissatisfaction with Sodexo’s performance over the last 12 to 18 months but voted 6-1 to approve the addendum. New Sodexo Facility Manager Graham Gielser said he was aware of the problems and that correcting them would be his first priority. Also introduced were Clay Heymann, who will be in charge of grounds, and Travis Edwards, who will be in charge of maintenance. Angela Royal will be the head custodian. At the end of the meeting, the board approved out-of-town trips for the FFA and dance teams.
